Random Things

So here you have a list of Random Things about Elliott Rodgers (me!), updated for 2021.

  • I love photography, especially the natural world, wildlife and landscapes.
  • My idea of a good night is chilling with my friends. I’ve never been into the whole clubbing scene, I prefer pubs where you can mellow, enjoy the atmosphere, eat a nice meal and chat with friends.
  • If I had a super power I’d choose teleportation. Quite keen on flying, talking to animals by telepathy or mind reading.
  • I tend to have a bit of a polyphasic sleep pattern. Rather than one big block of sleep, I sleep in smaller blocks spread throughout a 24 hour period.
  • I write poetry, some of which has been published and some is here on my website.
  • I can invert fillet a salmon (take the bones out from the inside, leaving salmon whole).
  • I don’t like my hair, I’ve never liked it since I can’t do anything with it.
  • I realise that the above may make me sound like a girl.
  • I can also remove the leg from a lamb joint and turn it into a boneless joint.
  • In my teens I seriously considered the idea of joining the army as a chef. I have friends who’ve served in the army. I wonder how different my life may have been.
  • I did get some training with the army whilst volunteering in a search and rescue unit.
  • I’ve also done some stuff with the RAF Police.
  • Besides dogs (especially Border Collies), I love tigers, giraffes and otters.
  • I worked on the first aid team at London Zoo, while there I was lucky enough to feed the otters, feed meerkats live crickets and feed bread to a Giraffe (bread is so the keepers can easily sneak them medications). I have so many very special memories of my time working at London Zoo.
  • I’m a HUGE fan of LeAnn Rimes’ music and met her in the Very VIP room at The Appollo, Hammersmith, Sept 2004), got a autographed tour poster. I also went to see her at The Appollo in her 2013 tour with a lovely Dutch friend Inge.
  • My friends are very important, without some of them I literally wouldn’t be alive today.
  • I speak a bit of French, German and Arabic.
  • I can easily navigate my way around the London Underground network.
  • I am strangely proud of the above.
  • I know some British Sign Language.
  • I’m tone deaf but I can sing – badly.
  • In the same trip across London on the Underground I have helped people in French, German and in Sign Language.
  • Between the ages of about eight and eleven I desperately wanted to be a marine biologist, the oceans still fascinate me.
  • I love reading – My all time favourite author is Raymond E Feist.
  • I love taking long, very hot baths. The record for time in the bath stands at 6 hours! I often use it as a place to think.
  • I was given a bravery award for my actions after a gas explosion opposite a petrol station.
  • I want to go travelling at some point in the future, I’d really like to explore more of Morocco, I want to visit Egypt as well since the history is fascinating, Australia also looks good, especially for the wildlife photography.
  • I was supposed to be on one of the trains that was attacked by a suicide bomber during 7/7. The bomber was in my “usual carriage” at the same part I usually sat at. I slept in due to finishing work late the night before doing medical cover at an Oasis Concert and a blue light run right at the end of the concert.
  • I was once held up in an armed robbery at a previous retail job.
  • If I had a large enough garden I would love to have bee hives.
  • And a hawk or falcon.
  • I have no big toe nails.
  • I have zero fear of heights or confined spaces. Useful when I was in a Search and Rescue Unit.
  • I wouldn’t do a bungee jump.
  • I would like to do a parachute jump. I’m unlikely to do this now with my mobility problems with my left leg.
  • I was a blood donor. Had to stop due to amount of tablets taken due to my leg (17+ a day!)
  • I qualified as a radio amateur (B Licence).
  • I have no idea where my family is or who is still alive, this doesn’t bother me. They don’t want me and I don’t want them. The exception is my daughter.
  • I’m a Virgo but don’t believe in Horoscopes.
  • I like Comic Sans Serif. It’s a lovely font, highly readable even by dyslexics. I don’t get why it has such a bad press. I still wouldn’t do a whole website in it though!
  • I was a steward and photographer on some of the Stop The War marches and am proud of my involvement.
  • I’ve represented my county (Buckinghamshire) at National Light Rescue competitions…
  • and our team won….
  • and I got maximum marks in the individual First Aid section.
  • I can remember the telephone number of the first girl I ever loved (or at least was very serious about) but not the date/time of my next GP appointment).
  • I know this is weird
  • I’ve been homeless on three occasions.
  • I’m a moon landing sceptic.
  • I’m addicted to fish finger sandwiches. For extra yummy made with fish fingers, cheese, mayo and some fresh basil.
  • I don’t agree with the TV Licence and think it should be abolished.
  • I suffer with really bad migraines. Am going to get new meds after my amputation surgery. It’s now about one a week. It has been as many as eleven in four days.
  • All the letters in my first name and most of my surname score one point each in scrabble (D and G are two points)
